Waypoints
A waypoint is a latitude/longitude position that has a name, a color, and a descriptive
comment. Waypoints exist independently of charts and can be displayed on any chart. Thus placing a waypoint
on one chart will make it appear on all charts that contain that position.
There are 2 kinds of waypoints: Regular waypoints and Man Overboard. The
Man Overboard is always placed at the current GPS position (if known) and
should be used in an emergency. A regular waypoint can be placed at the
current GPS position or at any point on a chart. To place at the current
position select the Mark position with pointer option from the Waypoints submenu
of the Tools menu or from the Mariner toolbar.
Note that for speed and convenience, selecting Man Overboard and Mark current
position will automatically select a file name for the waypoint. Mark position with
pointer will allow you to specify a file name.
Once a waypoint is created it will be automatically loaded into all currently loaded
charts. To see what waypoints are currently loaded, you may select Loaded
waypoints. This option will display the list of all loaded
waypoints in the currently specified color. Pointing to any of the listed waypoints will display
a menu with the following options:
- Position will display the latitude/longitude position of the
waypoint. For Man-Overboard waypoints, the time the Waypoint was created will also be shown.
- Edit... will open the Route/Waypoint Editor that will allow you to change
any aspect of the waypoint.
- Unload will unload the mark from the system and all charts. The
mark can be reloaded through the Load existing mark option of the
Marks menu.
