The Mariner Tools menu
The Tools menu contains the following controls:
- Current track allows recording of the boats actual movements.
Once a track is recorded, it may be loaded as a route.
- Routes are plotted or recorded paths.
- Waypoints are positions on the chart that you wish mark.
Hint: Tracks, routes, and waypoints are all made up of geographical positions. These
positions are plotted onto any visible charts. This means, for example, that if you plot a route
on one chart, that route will be visible on any other charts that contain the geographical points
that make up the route.
In addition to the above, the Tools menu also has the following entries:
- Pointer will close any open tools such as marks or routes that you
are plotting and switch to a normal pointer. See the Marks and Routes links
above for an explanation.
- Set anchor alarm will enable or disable the anchor alarm. You will be asked to
enter the maximum radius around the current position in which movement is permitted
before the alarm goes off.
In general the radius should be set a little higher then the length of the anchor
line that is in the water. For example, if you have set anchor and the line dropped
over the side is 100 feet then you should set the radius a little larger (perhaps
150 feet). If the anchor alarm does get triggered you will get a visual and audio
prompt.
- Set GPS alarm will enable or disable the GPS alarm. You will be asked to
enter the maximum time between received GPS messages.
If the GPS input is lost for longer than the timeout value a visual and audio alarm will
be triggered.
- Set default display units will set the default speed and distance units that
will be used by the various instruments. All instruments provide a mechanism to override
this default setting.
