The Mariner Instruments
Instruments are visual tools that can be displayed in Mariner workspaces. Each instrument has
its own settings which are specific to its function as well as a common set of menu options.
Click the right mouse button while the mouse pointer is within the instrument to pop-up the menu.
The common functions of all instruments are typically shown at the bottom of the instrument's option menu:
- Help - Shows the help page relevant to this particular tool
- Close - Closes this tool. If any other tools are present in the same
section of workspace, they are unaffected.
- Add instrument - This is not a tool option but a way to add another tool to the
same section of workspace as the current tool.
Currently the following instruments are provided:
- Chart viewer provides a graphical view
of a chart, a representation of the current position, as well as any
loaded marks, tracks, and routes.
- Current position shows the current position,
date and time, course, speed, and magnetic deviation, as it is received from the GPS
source. Please note that when the GPS source is a pre-recorded file the date and time
shown will be the date and time when the file was recorded, not the current date and time.
- Speedometer shows current, average,
and maximum speed, as well as an odometer.
- Digital compass shows the
current heading in magnetic-north or true-north orientations.
- Analog compass is a more
traditional representation of a dial and needle compass. This compass provides
heading-up and north-up views, as well as magnetic-north and true-north
orientations.
- Clock shows current system time. This is the time
as set on the computer. If you wish to see the time as provided by the GPS feed use the
Current position instrument.
- Stopwatch is a timer that you can start or
stop as needed.
- Satellite monitor displays the satellites
being used for the GPS fix, their positions and signal strengths.
- GPS input monitor shows the raw input
of GPS command strings as it is read from the GPS source.
