We are proud to announce Mariner™ version
3.1
- Runs on Microsoft Windows
and Linux (other platforms are in the works) with
a multi-tasking architecture allowing all components
to run in parallel and taking full advantage of
the new multi-core CPUs (such as Intel's Duo).
- Supports the standard
United States National Oceanographic
and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) charts
in KAP format.
- Enables fully automatic chart
selection, chart zooming, and chart scale selection.
We have made the chart display look as identical
to paper charts as possible. This makes the interface
easier to use and more intuitive and allows an easy
1-to-1 correlation to any existing paper charts.
- Provides an easy to use and very
flexible user interface. We do not limit you to
fixed screen layouts, numbers of routes, etc. The
software is designed to adapt to you, not to have
you adapt to it.
- Allows you to customize your
screen with mutiple simultaneous screen layouts
that allow you to configure the interface to be
perfect for different boating situations such as
close quarters maneuvering, crusing, navigation
planning, etc.
- Provides for unlimited combinations
of instruments including:
- Chart viewers (with full
support of day/night/dusk/etc. color palettes
of KAP charts)
- Analog and digital compasses
with north-up and course up orientation
- Speedometers and odometers
with average and maximum speeds
- GPS based location, date,
time, and speed information as well as satellite
status
- Plot routes and measure distances
with simple mouse clicks and place marks at individual
chart locations to record spots of particular interest.
- record the actual path of
the boat and then store it as a route (think of
this as dropping bread crumbs as you move).
- Name routes and location marks,
and enter unlimited comments detail and choose your
own route and mark colors.
- Select distance and speed
units (feet, meters, nautical and statute miles,
kilometers) and allow over-rides for individual
tools.
- Set visual and verbal anchor
and GPS alarms with user defined timeouts and drift
radiuses.
To use Mariner™ you will need a few things:
-
The Mariner™ software and either a free
trial or a purchased license.
-
A computer with a serial port
-
A GPS receiver that can speak the NMEA 0183
protocol and that has a serial port (and cable
to plug into your computer) . Most GPS
receivers meet this criteria but please check
with the manufacturer or the store to make
sure. The GPS receiver is not required to view
charts, plot routes, etc. It is only required
for real time navigation.
-
The Official United States National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration
(NOAA) Charts in KAP format. We provide uo-todate charts for
free, distributed on DVD with Mariner. Alternatively you may
download
the charts from NOAA.
